Apprentice Programme

“Baking and love go hand in hand, for as one bakes a tasty treat and fills the room with its
sweet aroma, the true joy is to take what has been made and share it with another.”

– Heather Wolf, Kipnuk has a Birthday

The Velvet Cake Co. has had an exciting journey over the past five years. From our first bakery under a staircase in the quaint town of Durbanville,
we have been privileged to grow into a full-fledged bakery that supplies popular cakes to our two retail outlets and our loyal customer base.
We are grateful for each and every client who has bought a Velvet Cake Co. cake and would like to give some of the love back.

In September 2016, The Velvet Cake Co. will launch our exciting new Velvet Colour Collection. Each Colour Cake consists of six layers of fun and fab buttermilk cake, layered with
our famous velvety cream cheese frosting, to create a perfect ratio between cake and frosting, topped with a touch of sparkle and sprinkles!

Adding to the magic of this range, we designed an exclusive range of Cake Ambassadors, called the Cakelettes.
The Cakelettes represent the social conscience of The Velvet Cake Co. by way of an Apprentice Programme aimed at female upliftment and empowerment.
Of each Colour Cake sold, 1% will be donated to a bursary fund. In November 2017, the search for the first Velvet Cake Co. Apprentice will begin.

To be eligible, the applicants must:

  • Live in the Western Cape
  • Be aged between 18 and 24 at the start of the programme in January 2018
  • Not be in any current education, employment or training programme.
  • Have a Matric qualification

The selected apprentice will be sent on a patisserie training course which will be paid for from the bursary.
On completion, the apprentice will be placed in full-time employment at The Velvet Cake Co’s bakery.
